McCain 2000 poll numbers?

McCain whipped W's ass in  NH in 2000.  What did his poll numbers look like in the weeks prior to the primary?  He won a huge chunk of independent voters - did that show in the last few tracking polls?  I guess what I am asking is if there was a huge difference between what the polls predicted and what the voters said.
