Many of the talking points Clinton supporters give for not supporting Obama are a consequence of the Clinton campaign. And, after June 4th, it is necessary for the party to put aside the past Clinton/Obama primary battle and work together to defeat John McCain.
But, since June 3rd is the end of the nominating calendar, Clinton may take a position that she does not need to concede nor give a concession speech. Now, while some may say, she would not do that, there is precedent. Let’s look at her past performance. On January 26, 2008, Clinton passed on giving a concession speech after she lost the South Carolina primary. South Carolina proved to be only the beginning. During the February primaries Clinton was highly criticized for not congratulating Obama on his prior wins, not to mention again, no concession speeches. Time and time again, she continued to go on as if nothing had happened whenever Obama won a primary.
So, if she never gives a concession speech, will it matter? For me, I do not want to spend the summer with a Clinton concession countdown. But, that may be a real possibility. I believe Clinton should give a concession speech, or at least some type of speech, she can call it whatever she wants. I believe this may be her last and best opportunity to capture the hearts of the country and possibility even redeem deep seemingly impregnable past hurts. It can be a compelling speech, remembered for all times which speaks to issues of inequality but rises above and motivates us all to work together and uplifts our souls. I am hoping for the speech, I hope we do not end up with only a countdown.
UPDATE:
I made a mistake with my poll, so for those who believe as I do, that she should concede and have a heck of a speech in doing so, please provide tips.
