Justice Antonin Scalia: Al Gore to blame for 2000 US election mess

The 2000 presidential election debacle was the fault of Al Gore, who should have followed Richard Nixon's 1960 example and conceded without legal action, according to the Supreme Court's leading conservative judge.

"But he did not even think about bringing a court challenge. That was his prerogative. So you know if you don't like it, don't blame it on me.

"I didn't bring it into the courts. Mr Gore brought it into the courts.

Justice Scalia insisted that his controversial decision, along with four other justices, to stop votes being recounted in Florida because the method was unconstitutional and it was too late to consider other options was "absolutely right".

Ummmm...Tony baby...last time I looked, the case was named Bush V. Gore..are you so incompetent that you didn't realize the first named party is the one who brought the suit?

Justice Scalia..you have succinctly proven Howard Dean's estimation of the 2000 Supreme Court correct: "the 2000 election was stolen by 'five intellectually bankrupt judges."

What a bunch of BS.... Scalia, you should have stayed the hell out of it, and NOT stuck your faces where they don't belong, constitutionally. You have NO business making a decision for ONE person and then saying that your decision can't be used as a precedent, either.

Scalia, YOU stole the election, YOU stopped the vote in Florida from being counted, and YOU declared "W"orthless Bush to be the winner in a race you had NO business deciding. YOU disenfranchised an entire state, and YOU gave the country the single "W"ORST president and administration in it's history.

And THAT, you arrogant POS, is why YOU had NO business involving yourselves in it. Thank you for destroying the country. I hold YOU idiots personally responsible.

He said that he "of course" regretted that the Supreme Court had become involved. "But I don't know how we could have avoided it. Could we have declined to accept the case on the basis that it wasn't important enough?

"How could we not take the case?" Because it was a State issue. The voters in Florida where not voting for President of the U.S. They where voting on Florida's representation in the Electoral College. This is about a clear cut States Rights issues as there has ever been. The recount was mandated by Florida law.

Sadly,Scalia is not the biggest conservative moron on the Supreme Court, that mantle belongs to Clarence Thomas. Scalia is just much more vocal in his overall disrespect for others and all that is decent and good in the world.
