What is Bill Clinton's deal? They hold a unity event in NH for his wife and Obama. HRC redeemed herself in my eyes 10 fold with that stirring speech and the small joke she made about coins, McCain-Bush and change. It was like a giant love fest. But Bill, he's off in Europe to visit his "other black friend"(to borrow a Colbert phrase) Mandela for a birthday celebration. Call me crazy but I think Mandela wouldve been OK with Bill not showing up. Or maybe Bill believes the party is not a party until he comes through. Which brings me to my point.
While all reports coming out of the event were sparkling, one sour note seemed to dampen every networks and news outlets coverage. The fact that Bill released a statement, through a spokesman, while in London, saying basically "Yea, yea, whatever. I'll be there".
I like most Dem voters like HRC going in, got put off during the primaries, but was willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Make no mistake about it, the Democratic Primary WAS the de-facto general election and it was bound to cause a rift between HRC and Barack. I chalked all the primary antics up to this and never bought into the fact that the party wasnt benefitting and blah, blah, blah.
Now its seems I might have to reexamine my thinking. No matter how much work, campaigning, fundraising, speaking Senator Clinton has to do it it will always seem half-hearted. Not through any fault of her own but the fact the other head of the 2-headed Clinton dynasty is not in the game.
While evidence of a quick healing process already seems to be happening, will it ever be truly healed until Bill comes out full force, like his wife did and declare unequivocally that he supports Obama and let the past be the past.
Until then, all the pomp and circumstance, fervor and fire surrounding HRC and Barack's joint effort will be dampened by Buzz Kill Bill like a wet hanky.
I got 2 questions just looking to throw out there for discussion in the comments
- Now that HRC is on Team Change, she's bringing the 18 million votes, name recognition and a huge donor rolodex she used for the Senate and Presedntial runs. What is Bill needed for now other than advice to President Obama, assuming he wins the White House?
- I didnt believe this then and still dont now but some do. Do you see Bill Clinton as a racist or having "racist tendencies" as a result of the primary season. Or do you, like me as an African American, think he was just someone who misspoke like hundreds of campaign surrogates and staffers around?
On another note, I would like to say goodluck to Spain against Germany tommorow as they go for there first title in 44 years. Viva Espana--thats for my wife
