This is not necessarily an endorsement of any of these individuals (for example, I cannot really stand the second person listed) but a short list of people who may make sense paired with Obama for strategic purposes.
- General Wesley Clark (Strong military background, some foreign policy bona fides, Arkansas may be ready to flip and he can help with that, he is a Clinton supporter and this would help significantly in bringing hardnosed Clinton folk into the Obama fold and help heal any alleged rifts in the camps, not a bad public speaker or debater, he may help in Ohio, PA and maybe even parts of Appalachia, and the optics of a true military person belittling and birddogging McCain on any think military would not only be helpful but also priceless).
- Senator Jay Rockefeller (allegedly strong foreign policy and intelligence experience, would definitely help with Appalachian voters, would likely bring WVa into the Dem side come November, would show that Obama is willing to speak to those who may hold views in opposition to his--e.g. warrantless wiretapping, teleco immunity--would get Rockefeller out of the Senate and likely replaced with a more progressive Dem to help on many issues to be faced by the Obama administration, and he would probably help with voters in from Ohio, PA and Virginia).
- Former Senator Bob Graham (may be no one more knowledgeable on the Dem side re intelligence issues, has a solid grasp of foreign policy, got the Iraq war right, is still pretty popular in FLA and may help bring FLA to the Dems, problem though is his debating skill but if that can be improved just a bit he might be a pretty solid candidate, depending on McCain's choice)
- Governor Brian Schweitzer (an actual farmer and rancher, will help with western purple states and states leaning purple, can legitimately help with Appalachian states as Montana's concerns and issues are similar to the concerns and issues for the folks in eastern OH, western PA, and WVa (coal, agriculture, poverty), downside would be that he does not bring any substantive "national" experience, e.g., national security, defense, intelligence, foreign policy).
Clinton can be reserved for the first SCOTUS opening, while Edwards should receive a Cabinet and receive the second SCOTUS opening (damn, would be fun to watch Roberts and Edwards go toe to toe, especially on corporate issues).
