Which begs the question why is war McCain's principle recurring theme? And I think the answer has to do with McCain's mindset.
The son and grandson of USN admirals, his course in life was set out for him at a very early age. His nurturing environment was the world of the military. His parents, his friends, his education, all were part of that world. His career in the US Navy spanned 22 years. He flew fighters in Viet Nam, was shot down, and spent years as a POW undergoing the worst forms of physical and mental torture and deprivation. After his release, he chose to remain in the service until 1981. He then decided to enter politics, beginning as a congressman then senator and eventually two-time candidate for the presidency. When McCain speaks, listen to how he peppers his remarks with military references and terminology. How can anyone be surprised by his stand on Iraq and Iran? War means winning...nothing less. This is his immutable worldview.
The question we must finally ask is: What worldview do we want to guide our country for the next four years...McCain's war-centered view or Obama's world-centered view in order to succeed in restoring America's leadership position in the world and thereby succeed in defeating those who seek it's destruction?
