I felt my views on him were confirmed after 9-11. While his approval ratings soared, I watched as he diverted the American war effort away from our true enemies in Afganistan and let bin Laden walk free. I watched as his war became a fiasco, with almost a trillion wasted dollars, and thousands of wasted American and Iraqi lives.
I watched also as the government led by him proved completely inept and incompetent in dealing with a natural disaster such as Hurricane Katrina. Like many others, I figured the cat was out of the bag, and he was proven as the dismal failure that he actually was. While his approval ratings have plummented to record levels, current happenings have led me to re-assess George W. Bush, and what I used to believe was a failed Presidency.
It was no mistake that we went into Iraq when we were attacked from Afganistan. What I used to regard as gross incompetence, I can now only shake my head and realize it was a carefully orchestrated plan that has unfortunately achieved it's end. George W. Bush and his handlers were highly successful in doing just what he was elected to do.
When you look, in 2000 Gas Prices were less than half what they are now. Going to war against our real enemies, and actually dealing with the network that attacked us simply provided no profit for George W. and his cronies. In oil rich Iraq, they had an already demonized leader in Saddam Hussein that Americans hated. None of us would shed a tear to see this man deposed, and even executed.
Oh, but the bonus was the manipulation of the world-wide oil market. Going into Iraq successfully drove oil prices up for Bush, and his allies the Saudi Arabians and the American Oil companies. Record profits were the result as the world, and the American working class suffered. The natural disaster of Katrina was yet another chance to drive those prices, and the profits they produce even higher. A real stroke of luck for Bushco, not a failure at all.
A trillion dollars for the war profiteers his daddy, and indeed his own administration was tied up with, and record profits for the oil companies was not the only benefit that Bushco will leave office with. Now, because of the manipulation of the oil market, and the record profits of the Oil companies, Americans seem to be falling for the line that we should drill in Pristine lands like ANWR, in our coastal waters, and many other places like the Continental Shelf, and in the western part of our country where "Oil Shale" exists.
The worst part is it seems as if those responsible for the high price of energy will get away scot-free. The very oil companies that have gouged us time and time again will win the approval of the American populace to drill in our public lands for more oil, and more profit. Even some Democrats are favoring this plan now. The American populace seems to have forgotten it was the failed policies of this Administration and the record profits of greedy men in the Oil Industry that caused this mess, not the Caribou of Alaska.
Renewables such as bio-mass are taking a backseat, and will never recieve the funding they deserve for the promise they hold in weaning this country off it's addiction to oil, and just in time for the election, the manipulated gas prices are coming down. Democrats could actually recieve the blame for this mess for merely trying to protect our country from those who hold profits over people, or anything else for that matter.
So now, with so little time left in his Presidency, I must change my opinion on our 43rd President. This man thinks that history will bear him out as a successful President, and unfortunately I must concur. Not that I believe he has been a success for the American people or the Constitution he was elected to protect and represent, because his Presidency has been a complete failure for 99.9% of Americans. However, looking at things realistically now I must say that the Presidency of George W. Bush WAS a success, because it achieved everything he and his dispicable band of handlers set out to do.
