I know, I know. Everyone is sick on VP diaries. But I want to give you a few quotes from the interview. The quotes may not be exact, but you'll get the gist of it.
When asked about campaign surrogates:
I am not a surrogate for the Obama campaign. I'm here of my own accord.
When asked of VP aspirations:
That's up to Barack Obama. I don't think it will happen. But I think they'll make a great choice, whoever it is.
One last question was about the conflict between Russia and Georgia. The anchor quoted Gov. Tim Kaine, who's statement was:
And I’m very, very happy that the Senator’s request for a ceasefire has been complied with by President Medvedev.
He was apparently referring to Senator Obama's call for a cease-fire. I seriously doubt that Kaine meant that Obama was the reason that the ceasefire occurred, but conservatives have been twisting it to mean exactly that. And we all know that a badly worded sentence can be picked up by the traditional media and twisted however they want (see: John Kerry's botched joke). It makes Kaine look even more inexperienced on an international level, an image that he certainly did not need.
Something that I've always admired is when Democrats are able to not only go on Fox News, but be able to defend themselves and sometimes even make the anchor look stupid. Wesley Clark is able to do that. It makes me wish that John McCain could debate Wesley Clark, just so the country could see how woefully inept McCain really is in dealing with international issues.
I'm not looking for a VP that will help Obama win a state (historically a VP doesn't matter much in that area anyway). I want a VP that knows what he's talking about. If Obama picks anyone else, it won't be a big deal to me. But in my opinion, Wesley Clark is Obama's best choice.
