Unfortunately, the Republicans and John McCain only have one solution to all these problems. "Drill here, Drill now". Shockingly, a new report shows that John McCain is planning to give billions of more tax dollars and subsidies, along with new corporate welfare to the big oil companies. All this at a time when gas prices have been at an all-time high, and oil company profits have too. In 2007, they reached an amazing $148 billion.

For my home state of Kentucky, that means that John McCain is proposing to give $340 million of our tax dollars to Oil companies already making record profits in the next five years. Instead of working on real solutions in our state, we would be merely throwing these tax dollars away on nothing, but profits for men like my Congressman, Exxon Ed Whitfield, whose investments in Exxon and Chevron have made him a millionaire.
Instead of throwing this money away, we should be investing in fixing the energy crisis. If this $340 million were kept right here in Kentucky to work on clean energy projects, it could help provide real solutions to the Energy Crisis. Here is what that money could do for Kentucky:
Create at least 400 new Green Jobs
Weatherize 120,000 homes, saving energy and saving consumers an average of $360 a year in reduced utility bills
Power 52,000 or more homes with clean energy electricity from wind power

Here at Ryan for Kentucky, we understand why men like John McCain, and Exxon Ed Whitfield seek to give away hundreds of millions of Kentucky's tax dollars, and hundreds of billions of dollars of American tax dollars to big oil. When you profit from this corporate welfare, and these companies spend millions to bankroll your campaigns, why wouldn't you want to do that.
It is time for men like John McCain, and Exxon Ed Whitfield to quit trying to fool the American voters into thinking that drilling, and more corporate welfare for the oil companies are the solutions to our problems. It is time they entered the Brave New World of the 21st Century, and looked for real solutions to our energy crises, whether they profit from them or not. It is time to seek profits for Kentucky, and America.
