It's not surprising that McCain has been calling for more and more drilling. He's got one well himself that's about to run dry. McCain and his little band of Rove's merry men have gone to the POW well one too many times. So much so that even his mindless media band of camp followers are starting to take note. This is not the first time I've written about McCain and his magical POW wand. The first time was back in May when I wrote about the thousands of men and women who were captured by the Japanese in WWII. We know from the war crime trials that followed the end of the war in Asia that the brutality and sadism of their captors knew no bounds. This is in no way meant to diminish or disparage McCain's time in captivity.
But as opposed to McCain whose entire rhetorical bag of tricks always includes reference to his military and war experience (and he never lets us forget the POW part), the vast majority of others who were held in similar or much worse circumstances are reticent to resurrect the nightmares.
But where's the rest of his biography? The mainstream media (MM) most of whom genuinely and personally like McCain seem to have some sort of collective writer's block when it comes to their ability to write anything approaching a critical analysis of McCain. At least until now. The blogosphere has covered and continues to cover this important issue. But very little of it finds its way into the MM. So most Americans react to McCain based solely on the information that they have been spoon-fed by his campaign, the Republican talking heads, and the complicity of the MM.
I think what pushed some of the MM to finally react was McCain's campaign's response to the "How many houses do you own?" brouhaha. One of his spokesman sniffed that McCain spent five and a half years living in one house, a prison. Aside from the non-sequitur, it was the nadir of the use of the POW magic wand which McCain and his surrogates have been using to wish away all things damaging to his image. I find this an insult to the memory of every man or woman who suffered similar and far worse at the hands of their captors.
It also proves once again how shallow he and his campaign is. And how they lack any semblance of new ideas for America. Pitiful.
