After reading of so many Democrats wringing their hands over how to go after John McCain, maverick philanderer and POW, I have to admit that I don't see the big problem.

Even my governor Phil Bredesen thinks it isn't advisable, but it would be far from the first time I have disagreed with him!

While Karl Rove is an asshat of the first degree, he wasn't stupid when he said in politics you go after your opponent's strength, not their weakness!

The trick in all of this is in not disrespecting his service or his sacrifices.....how do you do that you ask?

Follow me over the speedbump and I'll give you my 2 cents worth...

Everyone is familiar with the expression 'resting on your laurels', how about coming up with a new twist?

Here is my take on a McCain attack ad that could succeed....

As a former P.O.W., no one questions John McCain's patriotism, but America doesn't need a candidate who will rest on his laurels, and certainly not one who hides behind them.

[Cut to a slideshow of McCain's homes]

When asked how many homes he owned, John McCain couldn't remember. When criticized for it, he hid behind his laurels.

[cut to a picture of some bikers at Sturgis]

When criticized for suggesting that his wife participate in a topless beauty pageant, once again, he hid behind his laurels.

[cut to a 'who me?' picture of McCain]

When accused of cheating at Rick Warren's Saddleback forum, you guessed it, the McCain campaign hid behind his laurels.

America needs bold new leadership and accountability, not more of the same.
