Here is the video:
The video begins with the arrest of a protester for an unknown cause, with orders being barked from a megaphone demanding that anyone in the vicinity move away. The camera then pans to a code pink protester, who is already some 15 feet away from the arresting officers, but apparently not far enough.
I have seen similar situations. I know that police, amped up from adrenaline (and sometimes steroids) get carried away and feel the need to be a lot rougher than is required to subdue someone. If it is your friend being arrested, you feel the need to make sure they aren't treated unfairly. This, however, is not permitted in a police state. Police do not like witnesses to police actions. period.
The cop says 'Move it' then the code pink protester says something that sounds like 'let me do it again'...and the cop, with his billy club firmly gripped with one hand at each end, says 'back it up bitch' and shoves her forcefully enough that she is thrown immediately to the ground.
You might be saying, 'fair enough, she should have moved back.' But that is not the end of it. And maybe she was even staying on the ground a little longer for the camera's benefit (but hey, that is just like trying to draw a foul in the NBA, right?) But the officers just stand there an look down at her....
The video cuts to the aftermath, where the young lady is telling a group of reporters and cameramen what happened. Now, my friends, this is definitely a no no in a police state. She gets a full sentence and a half out before officers storm in to her impromptu press conference and haul her away.
Welcome to the Mile High Police State.
[Update]
The woman's name is Alicia Forrest.
See Rocky Mountain News
Also from Colorado Legal Eagles:
In the morning, volunteer Alicia Forrest from the anti-war group Code Pink was arrested when police stepped in as a Kansas pastor tried to seize control of Civic Center to denounce homosexuality.
Carlo Garcia, a leader of protest group Recreate 68, had asked police to escort the pastor out of the park. Instead, police said Garcia posed a threat and arrested him.
On a video shot by the Rocky Mountain News, Forrest is seen questioning an officer about the arrest of Garcia, and he responds by knocking her to the ground and saying,
"Back it up, b----," according to the tape.
Officers from several departments were working in the park at the time, and it's not clear on the tape what department the officer works for, though Denver police said they would begin a review of complaints about the incident.
Glenn Spagnuolo, a co-founder of Recreate 68, stated: "Since the beginning of this mobilization, we have always said that any violence would not come from us but would come from the police. Our predictions appear to have come true."
[Update 2]
The asshat in question who tried to take over the park from the duly permitted protester is none other than Fred Phelps.
From DNC - RNC Troops out now
Today, the police violated the legal permit that R68 has to the Civic Center Park, helping to protect and bring in right wing hate speech provocateurs such as Rev. Fred Phelps. When R68 organizers demanded their right to the permitted space, R68 organizer Carlo Garcia was arrested. Garcia has two brothers in Iraq and his father was given a purple heart.
When Code Pink organizer Alicia Torres questioned Garcia’s arrest, she was struck by police and arrested as well.
So there is some more context for you....there is a group of protesters, and a group of homophobic asswipes. The protesters have a permit to be there, and request that the non-permitted assholy rollers be escorted away...and who gets arrested?
The people with the legal permit to be there....
