Colin Powell: Redemption Time

As we all know, Colin Powell betrayed his values and his country in supporting the war on Iraq. He is the one person other than the President who could have delayed or even prevented the war. His UN speech remains painful for Powell.

His chance at redemption? Endorse Obama-Biden just after the Republican convention. Prevent the reckless and feckless McCain from putting himself and Palin in the White House.

It must gall Powell, who remains a patriot, that the sputtering GOP nominee has pointed his cane at Palin as his choice for VP.

Palin, who doesn't seem to have even thought about the Iraq War prior to 2007.

Powell damaged his reputation in 2003. Far more important, his judgment lapse seriously damaged his country.

He again has the power to change the course of events and ensure that the country is not seriously damaged again.

Powell knows McCain has lost his mind. He knows McCain does not have the temperament to be president. He knows Palin is not ready to be president.

And he knows that Obama has the judgment and skill to be a great president.

Once Powell endorses, I would expect Hagel and Bloomberg to follow. If these are serious people who care about their country, they will endorse Obama immediately following the Republican convention.
