It's the fact that they would mock Senator Obama being on the bill with such a ubiquitous "mugshot" photo. It's the thought that they would mock the thought of Senator Obama being a part of any national monument and in an essence being a part of history. How they made him look so "out of place." It is the thought that they would imply this notion that "how dare he." How dare he what? How dare he construct and relay positive ideas for America? How dare he try to motivate, inspire, and incite passion and excitement about himself, the direction of the nation, and this election year? Or how dare he step out of bounds and think that it's possible to be black and lead America? It's a slippery slope John McCain's campaign is cartwheeling downhill on.
It seems I'm not the only one raising an eyebrow, shaking my head, and taking out my frustrations via writing-
I cite Bob Herbert's latest NYT op-ed "Running While Black":
Spare me any more drivel about the high-mindedness of John McCain. You knew something was up back in March when, in his first ad of the general campaign, Mr. McCain had himself touted as "the American president Americans have been waiting for."
There was nothing subtle about that attempt to position Senator Obama as the Other, a candidate who might technically be American but who remained in some sense foreign, not sufficiently patriotic and certainly not one of us — the "us" being the genuine red-white-and-blue Americans who the ad was aimed at.
Moreover, it's the idea that John McCain has been pulling these kinds of stunts since the beginning of this campaign without a peep from the press. It's absolutely undeniable! The media still very much eat out of John McCain's palm of Senator McCain and the rest of the GOP shills, unfortunately.
John McCain thinks that he can inject race into this campaign by raising this ridiculous notion that Senator Obama will change the "100 dollar bill" while turning the tables and blaming Senator Obama for accurately saying what McCain's cronies had already portrayed.
It gets a little more rovian each day.
