Sunday morning on Meet The Press, McCain chief strategist Steve Schmidt inexplicably reminded us about one of John McCain's tired old lies, the false claim that McCain had urged President Bush to "fire" Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. I can't belive that Tom Brokaw let Schmidt get away with the lie. A candidate or surrogate can now go on a highly respected television news program, tell a lie without being corrected on the spot or any time after.

The truth is that John McCain never urged Bush to fire Rumsfeld, nor did he call for his resignation, rather he offered words of praise and enthusiasm for Rumsfeld.

The Youtube video below the fold illustrates McCain's support and enthusiasm for Rumsfeld, right up to about the time he resigned.

Now, it is true that McCain did distance himself somewhat from Rumsfeld towards the very end of Rumsfeld's tenure, McCain has also heaped praise on him, saying that Rumsfeld and Cheney formed "the strongest" national security team in American history. McCain also mentioned in tribute to Cheney, that he would also have chosen him to be VP if he (McCain) had been the nominee. Well...it certainly looks like McCain got his wish in nominating Sarah "Cheney" Palin! Nobody knows how to stonewall investigations or play looser with the facts than the inspired republican team of Palin/Cheney! Thanks Jed Lewison for the video.

This isn't funny anymore. It's pathetic and revolting!

It seems that both McCain and Palin have never heard of Google or Youtube. Their positions are preserved forever given modern day technology. Lets not sugar coat their lies. Lets call them... lies... and let's do our best to make sure that the media calls them lies...not misstatements, or partial truths or anything similiar. These are outright lies...let's call it as it is and demand the same of the media!
