His mission, he said, was to assure the candidate's aides that -- despite some negative on-air commentary by Mr. Olbermann in particular -- Mr. McCain could still get a fair shake from NBC News. Mr. Brokaw said he had been told by a senior McCain aide, whom he did not name, that the campaign had been reluctant to accept an NBC representative as one of the moderators of the three presidential debates -- until his name was invoked.
"One of the things I was told by this person was that they were so irritated, they said, 'If it's an NBC moderator, for any of these debates, we won't go,' " Mr. Brokaw said. "My name came up, and they said, 'Oh, hell, we have to do it, because it's going to be Brokaw.' "
NBC and Brokaw show that they caved in to the McCain campaign and put the guy who is obviously smitten with McCain in charge of their news/debate formatting. When Tom Brokaw has to (actually) explain that he's not a friend of McCain, you know he's a friend, and you know who's side he's on. Because Brokaw doesn't do it as openly as Olbermann, doesn't mean it's not happening. At least Olbermann points out the faults within campaigns. It certainly doesn't look as though we will be getting that from Brokaw, who's only concern has been that of the McCain campaign.
McCain most certainly was getting a fair shake from MSNBC. The MSNBC cable network does not make up false narratives, innuendo and outright lies, as does the unapologetic FOX News Nutwork. How many times has FOX insinuated that Obama is a Muslim or drone on about his past associations, proven inconsequential or false? How many times have they showed false or offending chiron's on the bottom of their screens? Tom Brokaw needs to realize that a cable channel is not the same as a network newscast. Networks stick to a straight news format and cable often provides the commentary. People accept these roles of the two mediums. Olbermann and Matthews were doing fine in their coverage of the campaign and campaign events. MSNBC is not FOX. Bobody spreads the partisanship more than FOX..and they never apologize for it..which is probably why they have all the ratings.
NBC take note: Making the obviously partisan David Gregory a host of "Meet The Press" will be a huge mistake and will cause the news show not only to lose its credibility, but will devastate the ratings as well. Tom Brokaw.....it's time for you to retire, as you promised to do when you left the anchor desk! Brokaw has lost his integrity and objectivity and I no longer trust him!
