A bunch of us at work watched the inauguration. I tried to watch it online, but the stream was moving so slow that I was getting buffer overruns constantly. I’d love to assume that the servers were overloaded with millions of folks online trying to watch. So, into the staff kitchen to watch. It was amazing to say the least.
On the way back from lunch I decided to check out what Rush was saying. In the opening moments of his show he made a big deal out of how, as an American, he should cut President Obama some slack and wish him success. That line of thought lasted about 30 seconds and then the bullshit started. Obama gave a bad speech; he’s going to turn us into a communist government, blah blah blah.
I guess I’m a glutton for punishment, because hearing Rush blather on motivated me to check out Restate to see if anyone...anyone on Redstate had anything decent to say. Here’s some of what I found. (no links...if you really want to read this stuff I’m sure you can find it)
"Obama kicks off Presidency with tax free abortions"
"The sound of the "O" on the keyboard"
"Hillary Clinton to bring 4 years of war as Secretary of State"
"Why I want Barack Obama to fail as President"
I guess I’m naïve, but my first presidential election was 1976. A few times since then, the guy I wanted got in. A few times, I was on the losing side. But I always hoped that our new President would do a good job, regardless of which party he came from. I guess my naiveté comes from my belief in mans better nature, and that policy disagreements can be honestly debated and consensus can be reached. I find it repugnant that there are people who actually want our new President to fail.
I am very proud to be an American today. We do what other peoples around the world can only dream of. A free and open election process, a newly elected leader, a transfer of power. All, without a single dissident jailed, without a single gun fired, without a single family in mourning.
We chose our new leader, and I believe we chose well.
