AFA stirring up the base

Yesterday, I wrote about the apparent fundie kerfluffle over Obama's decision to name John Berry as head of the Office of Personnel Management--the agency that oversees the civil service. Was it because he's unqualified? Was it because he's incompetent? No, no, no. It's because--drum roll please--he's gay!

Well, folks, two stories from the American Family Association's in-house wire service proves that the religious right is still playing the same old card. That's right, stir up the base with horror stories about what those evil, God-hating libruls are walking all over the Judeo-Christian values this nation is based on.

Things like this are why you have some of the poorest districts in the country giving Republicans landslide victories when, on paper, they really have no business voting Republican.

First off--the mere fact Hillary is even considering giving benefits to gay employees at the state department has the religious right, shall we say, up in arms.

Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel is not surprised by the request -- and the response. "They may very well get their wish with this current administration in that Barak Obama has also signed off on every demand of the homosexual lobby," he says.

According to Barber, getting same-gender benefits is only one phase of the homosexual agenda. "This is one step in order to try to get full homosexual 'marriage' recognition at the federal level," he says. "This is the camel's nose in the tent."

And next we've got a column by David Reagan, head of Lamb and Lion Ministries, warning about the supposed "war on Christian values.

The Obama administration has wasted no time in declaring war on evangelical Christians. Within minutes after the new president took his oath of office, his staff posted his agendas concerning homosexuality and abortion on the White House website.

So it doesn't matter about the economy. Or jobs. No, no--we have to stop gays from getting married and overturn Roe v. Wade.

Somebody needs to tell Don Wildmon that a significant number of born-agains--like this one--have figured out that abortion and gay rights aren't the be-all, end-all to everything. After all, look what happened when we ignored the economy in favor of a president who would supposedly give us a more "moral" administration.
