Updated: How does Obama stop his slide?

Obama's approval ratings have been going down at a very alarming rate lately. In the gallup tracking poll, he has been losing an average of a point a day since Tuesday. Rasmussen has him at just 53%, which is the worst he has ever been. I am wondering what the main reason for this slide is. It could be one of two things. It could be liberals souring on him because he has not been very good on gay issues. The other and more likely is that the Republican meme of "spending too much" is working and is hurting Obama among independents. Obama is not explaining that if we tried to cut spending, the economy would plummet further due to reduced demand.

What Obama can and must do to stop the slide is make sure that a healthcare plan is passed with a public option by the end of the year. He needs to tell the Ben Nelsons, Kay Hagans, Kent Conrads, and Mary Landrieus that they simply dont have a choice. That if they oppose this plan they may as well just find a window and jump because Democrats will get destroyed in 2010 if healthcare isnt passed.

The window on healthcare reform is about 35% closed already and we have until December to pass something and have Obama sign it. We have some time, but not a lot. The House has a good bill that should pass the House and then pass the Senate(with reconciliation if neccessary). This would likely help stop Obama's fall in approval ratings and get them trending upward again by early next year. Healthcare reform with a public option is the one and only thing I would be willing to risk our Congressional majorities for. Obama and Democrats need to get this done like their lives depended on it, because they do.

This is a state that Obama won 55%-42% in 2008. The bottom is really falling out here.
