A little background.. I used to have a blog which was mostly about Glenn Beck and fighting his insanity back when he was on Headline News. I tried to sound the alarm back then, but no one really knew who he was. I broke a lot of stories which got picked up by Keith Olbermann and other large websites. (Not trying to toot my own horn, just saying I know of what I speak lol)
It saddens me that I couldnt do more to stop Beck before he became what he is now. Maybe I should have tried harder. Maybe I could have done more. But now, unfortunately, its too late. Beck has become a monster who on a nightly basis spews so much vile and incendiary commentary, that he has become what I feared most.. and that is a leader of a movement.
Anyway, on to the main point.. Why Beck is truly dangerous :
If you go to a lot of the right wing message boards and websites (I wouldnt advise it, especially after eating) you see the pure hate and racism that has taken over a lot of people since Barack Obama's election. It is unorganized and random. Most people over there simply hate Obama because hes black, hate his family cause they are black, and hate his policies because hes black.
We have seen the militia movement rise again since Obama's election. We have seen gun and ammunition purchases increase. We have seen the ratings of Fox News increase. We have seen people bring guns to Presidential events. We have seen ministers wish death on President Obama. As a result, we have also seen the threats against the President increase by 400% according to the secret service.
What do these people (the right wing haters, the militias, the gun buyers) have in common? They are leaderless. Without Bush/Cheney in power, they have no one to follow. They scattered and have fragmented into many different groups.
Thats what makes Beck so dangerous. His show has become the #1 show on cable news (even beating O'Reilly!) and he has combined these fragmented groups into one large group. His show and his rhetoric appeals to these fringe elements and seeks to unite them under one goal and one ideal. Beck calls this the "9/12 project". It is basically just a lot of right wing ideas and principles, but it is also a call for us all to act like we did on 9/12, you know when we followed the leader blindly and did what we were told...
He has tapped into something very dangerous, because these people dont want to be politicians (they in fact hate almost all of them) and they dont want to fix the problems of America. They are very singulary focused on one idea : Stop Barack Obama at any and all costs. No matter what it takes, they need to destroy him.
Beck has unleashed a monster on the rest of us, and that monster is called the right wing militia movement. They now have a leader and they now have a mouthpiece with a very large microphone. And they arent going to listen to his calls of non-violence because they know it is hollow. When Beck says "Obama has his hands around the throat of the Republic", he must know that these people, seeing a threat to their country, will save America the only way they know how. Violence.
I fear for this country. This monster that Beck has united and unleashed scares me. I see their words, I see what they have done in the past (Oklahoma City for example), and I know what they are capable of in the future. They wont stop at shouting at town halls. That's just the beginning for them, and the end result is bloodshed and political violence.
Will President Obama pay the price for Glenn Beck's quest for power and ratings? Will he pay with his life? I hope not. There is still time to stop Beck before its too late, if it isnt already. I suggest you support the boycott of Beck's advertisers, because that is the best thing we can do right now. And tell your friends and family to support it as well.
If Beck and the rest of them dont stop this path immediately, denounce the monster they have created and beg forgiveness from the rest of us, this story will have a horrible ending.
