The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) had to resort to suing the DoJ for failure to provide records to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform of Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's interview with Vice President Richard Cheney over the Valerie Plame Leak that endangered our national security, destroyed a CIA front and blinded us to nuclear proliferation in the middle east.
On October 1st, U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan ordered the release of records of former Vice President Cheney’s interview with the FBI in the Valerie Plame Wilson leak investigation. He set the deadline at Oct.9th.
The DoJ still hasn't released these records. Why and how the Obama administration is covering up for Dick Cheney's treason below the fold.
As reported here:
Last week, Jeffrey M. Smith, an attorney in the Justice Department's civil division, filed an emergency motion in US District Court in Washington, DC, requesting a 30-day stay of the court's October 1 order that called for the parts of the Cheney interview to be released by October 9.
Smith said the stay, which US District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan granted, was needed "in order to allow the Solicitor General [Elena Kagan] sufficient time in which to exercise her statutory authority to determine whether the [Department of Justice] will file an appeal in this action."
"This case involves an important issue that will require consultations at high levels of Government," Smith said, adding that the stay "is necessary to avoid the irreparable harm that would result if the Government is forced to disclose its documents to the public before it has the opportunity to consider whether to pursue its appellate rights."
So the DoJ, which fought tooth and nail to prevent the release of this information in the first place in order to cover Cheney's ass, needs time to think about it.
Well, they got what they wanted.
On Monday, United States District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan granted the Department of Justice (DOJ) a 30-day extension of the Court’s October 1st order to produce notes of the interview former Vice President Cheney gave to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as part of Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into the leak of Valerie Plame Wilson’s covert identity. DOJ sought the extension to consider whether it will file an appeal.
Delay. That's all this is. Just like the Republicans with Health Care. Delay, obstruct, deny.
Only this is Obama's people doing it to cover up for Dick Cheney's treason! Why, sadly, is this no fucking surprise despite that some centrist propagandist with a rec'd diary claims people
cried foul betrayer for no reason
.
No fucking surprise at all I'm afraid.
Afterall, at some point one has to ask oneself, "If I'm not being played for a fool by Obama, then why IS Obama's DoJ fighting tooth and nail to keep these transcripts from being released?"
Why IS Obama's DoJ fighting tooth and nail to cover up for George Bush?
the Obama administration has sought to conceal information in several high-profile court cases, in an effort that civil libertarians say amounts to covering up crimes committed by the Bush administration.
Last week, in a federal courthouse in New York, Obama's Justice Department attorneys again argued in favor of secrecy. The case involved 23 lawyers representing detainees at Guantánamo Bay who alleged in court papers that they were targets of the Bush administration's so-called Terrorist Surveillance Program(TSP), an initiative operated by the National Security Agency (NSA) that Obama called "unlawful and unconstitutional" during his presidential campaign in 2007.
"Our work with our clients may have been deeply compromised by illegal surveillance carried out by the last administration," said Shayana Kadidal, senior managing attorney of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) Guantánamo Global Justice Initiative, a civil rights organization. "The new administration has no legal basis for refusing to come clean about any violations of attorney-client privilege by the NSA."
Why IS Obama selling out progressives to the right
Van Jones was probably the single most prominent progressive in the Obama Administration. A founder of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and a leading green jobs advocate, Van Jones represented us in the White House.
And now he’s gone...
...The far right has been pushing Obama around a lot.
And there’s been no pushback from Obama. No standing up for progressive principles—or progressives.
Why IS Rahm Emmanuel fighting so hard to stop us from having a robust public option? In fact, why is Rahm Emmanuel in Obama's cabinet at all?
Remember NAFTA? Emanuel f..ked (to use one of his favorite words) organized labor then also.
What's the big problem? No public option and taxing union member's health care plans so as to raise the prices of them.
Why IS Obama against single-payer healthcare?
What makes it all so pathetic is that America already has an excellent model for delivering quality health care: a single-payer system called Medicare. Everyone in America gets this program, just like in Canada, Germany, France, Taiwan, Japan and elsewhere. The only difference is that in those other countries, people get it from the day they’re born. In America, you have to wait until you are permanently disabled, or until you reach the age of 65.
Far from having to "start from scratch," as Obama duplicitously claimed in his last address to Congress in explaining why he was not proposing a single-payer solution despite its obvious success in other countries, solving America’s health crisis by adopting a single-payer system would be a simply matter of taking a well proven system that works and is popular, and expanding it to cover everybody.
Why IS Obama giving away the farm in meetings with the insurance industry?
The insurers hustled, conned and lied to Obama. They cynically played upon his political naiveté about them. Worse, they didn’t even try to mask their play of him. AHIP brazenly fired off to the press a study it commissioned that claimed that Obama’s health care reform plan would hike the cost of insurance for families by thousands. The insurers insisted that private employers would get hit even harder with the increased fees, taxes, and add-on costs in the reform plan. They swore that would cause many employers to reduce or even eliminate coverage for their employees. The insurers doubled down on their play of Obama by threatening to spend a fortune on an ad campaign to kill his plan.
Double down? The irony in that choice of words is beyond my meager abilities to express.
If you believe this spin for one moment that Obama is "politically naive" then you really have to be one HUGE fool.
He fooled us once, when he got himself elected. Don't listen to the rah-rah propagandists who are doubling down their bets that he can keep on fooling us.
WHY? Because Obama never was what he pretended to be. He said what he knew Americans wanted to hear and he got elected because he had the audacity to give them false hope. Now he's willing to only serve one term if that's what it takes to get the health insurance industry's version of a public option passed. He's willing to serve only one term if that's what it takes to cover up for Dick Cheney and George Bush.
And if he thinks for one minute that he can continue to play the American public for suckers, well, he'll double down on that bet and go for another term based on empty promises.
