BarbinMD reports in Four House Republicans Have In Their Hands a List ... (Thu Oct 15, 2009 at 07:12:05 PM PDT) that four congresscritters are accusing "... a Muslim advocacy group of trying to plant spies on Capitol Hill." That group is the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an avowed anti-terrorist organization. This is part of a farrago of terrorist/Communist/treason/usurpation nonsense including conspiracies of convenience store operators, Soviet-Gulag health care, and High Crimes on the part of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.
This latest round is inspired by David Gaubatz, a former Air Force investigator who claims to know of four WMD sites in Iraq that the military refused to investigate, among other looniness. You should read what BarbinMD has to say about all of that.
I decided to look Gaubatz up and see about some of that other looniness. That turns out, oddly enough, to be S.A.N.E., the Society of Americans for National Existence[sm].
Talking Points Memo and Rachel Maddow, among others have also taken up the CAIR/intern/alleged spying story. But you have to look further to find out the rest of the story. This has not been done much. For example, Gaubatz does not have a Wikipedia entry of his own.
Gaubatz runs S.A.N.E., which is devoted to fighting the Muslim menace. The site recently went from public to Members Only, and had itself taken off the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, so you can't look at past snapshots of the site.

Not terribly useful to the rest of us, although bits and pieces of its explicitly racist paranoia have been quoted on other sites. But Gaubatz also runs DaveGaubatz.org. His home page is incompetently designed, with overlapping text, broken lines of text, and no navigation to speak of. I tried the Google search

That gave me links to his bio and some self-promoting PDFs. There is no other content on the site.
The evidence against CAIR that Gaubatz is hyping to those in Congress breathlessly hyping it to the rest of us is from an internal planning document: "We will develop national initiatives such as a lobby day and placing Muslim interns in Congressional offices."

Wow, just like AIPAC for Jewish interns. But I can see the problem. AIPAC interns have been accused of acting as "minders" for their politicians, to make sure thay stay on the Zionist path. OK, I can see interns "minding" politicians on behalf of a terrorist organization could be a problem, particularly a state terrorist like Israel. Well, the Hamas-led government in Gaza, too. But what does that have to do with CAIR?
Oh, I forgot. CAIR was named in a case in Texas (US v Holy Land Foundation) as an unindicted co-conspirator, and the right-wing blogs are all over that factoid, which they apparently picked up from The New York Sun, because no other paper seems to have picked it up. That means CAIR wasn't on trial, but the judge in Houston allowed the prosecutors to use as evidence material that CAIR published, without it being considered hearsay.
Partly because of Richard Nixon, that "unindicted co-conspirator" designation means that much of the public will assume that there was a meaningful case against them. No such case has been presented publicly against CAIR or any of the rest of the laundry list of more than 300 organizations and individuals presented by prosecutors, so that it is impossible to refute the allegation that CAIR is one of many "members of the US Muslim Brotherhood's Palestine Committee and/or its organizations". CAIR is in court to get de-listed from the case, an action without legal precedent, and so well worth watching for those concerned about prosecutorial misconduct and political demagoguery.
But there's more. Glaubatz sent his son Chris to infiltrate CAIR under a false name and become one of those Muslim interns infiltrating Congress. One of their prize exhibits is a photo of the son with Muslim Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN). Nothing wrong with being a double agent, of course, when the Good Guys do it. Right? Except that in the real world, as Rep. John Conyers pointed out, "Numerous Muslim-American interns have served the House ably and they deserve our appreciation and respect, not attacks on their character or patriotism."
Gaubatz has written a book, Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld that’s Conspiring to Islamize America, with a foreword by one of his Congressional co-conspirators, Sue Myrick R-NC. Another co-conspirator is the White Supremacist Jew (sic) David Yerushalmi, who claims that being a Muslim is prima facie evidence of planning to overthrow the government. He then calls on the Congress to declare war with "the Muslim Nation".

This weekend ISNA conducted a "convention" in DC, intending it to serve as a da'wa vehicle and an outreach to non-Muslims. But far from producing a kinder gentler profile, the radicals which run ISNA only further muddied the waters by briefly detaining, then ejecting an attendee [who had paid the full $100 registration fee] David Gaubatz, an anti-terrorism researcher with 20 years of service as an investigator in the U.S. Air Force.
The story of the incident as told by Mr. Gaubatz is bizarre in the extreme:
"I was 'flagged...Eight or nine ISNA and other men surrounded me. They refused to tell me who they were or why they wanted me to leave. One then said CAIR wants you out. They began crowding me. I was professional and told them to step away from me, tell me who they are, and why was I being illegally detained."
Bizarre is right. Unclear on the concepts of laws and rights doesn't cover it. Note also the Guilt by Association, the "scare quotes", the self-aggrandizement, and the general insanity of Gaubatz and Pipeline. Don't they know that "kinder, gentler" is Republican code for "kinder, gentler rape"?
