Maybe you've heard it: Obama sent Lieberman out to torpedo the Opt Out PO because they hates it, my precious, and they wants the trigger instead.
Well.
What to make of this? Could it be true? What if it is?
My advice: ignore it. Don't even spend another milliwatt of energy thinking about it.
Here's why...
It is said that the cardinal rule of politics is to unite your friends and divide your enemies. This meme will do the opposite if we let it. The Obama-Lieberman meme could divide us as friends.
So don't let it. I say we ignore it. Don't take your eyes off he prize.
The best approach: ignore the meme and fight for the strongest version of the HCR bill that we can get in the Senate.
Crucial to the effort is insuring that the House has a stronger version of the PO than the Senate.
If that turns out to be the case, then the placeholder for PO in the Senate is less important.
I am one of those who has railed against Opt Out; but I know that if the House has a better version of PO than the Senate version, then the Senate version is just a placeholder.
The key is to move the bill -- with the placeholder PO -- along to a final vote in the Senate. Then fight to insure that the stronger PO from the House prevails in conference.
And while all of that is happening, while that strategy is playing itself out, I suggest that someone find out if it is really possible to actually recall an elected Senator from Connecticut.
Because, regarding Lieberman, I'm not mad. I just want to get even.
UPDATE: Well, Bruce Ackerman says the Constitution won't allow for the recall of a US Senator.
Then how about a horse's head delivered to Lieberman's bed?
