Starting around 9:00PM last night, the pooh bahs and pashas of the media's punditocracy went into overdrive. Oddly enough, the pundits on the left saw the election outcome differently from their counterparts on the right. Strange that. In addition to the orgasmic orgy of oratorical opiners, we had more spinning happening then you could see in 20 years worth of Wheel of Fortune. The Repugs were crowing about their wins in Virginia and New Jersey and claiming it was a condemnation of, and, a flight from the Obama presidency even though all the exit polls showed that the majority of voters were not expressing any opinion on Obama. But a good Republican politician never lets the facts stand in the way of the orchestrated talking points.
This bloviation will continue from now right through the Sunday talk shows. And in the end, nothing will have changed. Not the mood of the public, nor the direction of the country, nor the goals of the Obama administration. Endless amounts of airtime and ink both digital and real will be spent reading the political entrails of these events. The reality of course is that we've known for weeks that the Republicans would have a cakewalk in Virginia and would probably unseat a truly deeply unpopular governor in New Jersey.
And mark my words, the Repugs are going to downplay the results of the election in New York's 23rd district which is going to have real impact and repercussions for the Republicans in the coming year. Even though the Palinistas on the ultra right, aided and abetted by Glenn Beck, the court jester of Wingnuttia, and the disgustingly warped sexual comments about the Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava by the seriously deranged Rush Limbaugh, they will still be emboldened by the very fact that they chased the party's official nominee out of the race.
The Palinistas have one and only one purpose in life: the overthrow of the Republican party. And the "mainstream" Republicans now in power who give lip service to the ultra right cause should fear for their political lives next year. The schism which has been percolating for so long is about to erupt full force. The Republican party in its present ideological incarnation will cease to exist within the next five to ten years. And the Democrats better start thinking about how they will turn this revolution to their own advantage and create a majority for the next twenty years. This is the big story from yesterday. Let's see how much play it gets from out traditional mainstream brethren.
And one last thing. You voters up in Maine? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
