Fuck you, Fox.

Where do I start?
Canada has so far sacrificed 116 soldiers fighting an enemy that never attacked us. We sent our best snipers to hell on earth because our closest ally was attacked. We don't have an impressive army, but we contributed what we could.
I realize that this show is supposed to be satire, but I fail to find the humor in mocking the militaries of your allies, especially on the same day that this particular ally lost 4 more soldiers to this war. But maybe it's funny if you're the sort of asshole that generally derides Canada's contribution to America's wars - you know, if you're the typical Fox viewer.
Our first casualties in Afghanistan were not at the hands of the Taliban, but were the result of an American soldier bombing the shit out of a Canadian training exercise. That "friendly fire" incident was not even worthy a mention - or heaven forbid, an apology - from The Decider. Any time I have dared look at American coverage of Canada's military, I have found very little, but many snarky comments from keyboard cowboys. I guess attitude trickles down better than wealth.
When Canada refused to contribute to the Iraq war, we were told that we must be "with the terrorists". Most of my friends stopped making trips across the border to Washington state because of the harassment we endured from the war mongers. Meanwhile, America all but forgot Afghanistan after diverting energy to Iraq, and Canada was left with dwindling allies in the region.
I can only imagine the reaction if a Canadian comic made fun of American deaths, or if roles were reversed in a friendly fire incident. Fox News would be calling for sanctions and air strikes on the evil socialists.
Joining the war in Afghanistan likely increased the risk of our being attacked by terrorists. Apparently it also increased verbal attacks from our allies. It has been quite a fucking ordeal to be involved in America's war and to receive no appreciation, but it is so much more infuriating to be mocked for it. My friends are over there risking their lives, and it's a fucking joke to some fucking hick on TV. Ha ha ha.
So, Fox, want to know what else is funny? Looking after stranded Americans in the aftermath of 9/11. Giving your country oil and clean water. Being amongst the first rescuers in NOLA after Katrina (you know, when your own government was busy circle-jerking itself).
The only silver lining I can find is that there are (hopefully) some in America that do appreciate the sacrifice of their Canadian brothers and sisters. To be honest, there were times before I found Daily Kos that I believed all Americans were just a bunch of selfish assholes. It is such a relief to know that the adults are back in charge, and that the Fox demographic is ever shrinking.
Fuck you, Fox. Just keep making your tent smaller, so I can continue to laugh at you.

UPDATE: Thank you for the comments - it's very reassuring to know that our fallen haven't been ignored by America. I'm quite humbled by the recs for my rant, but I'll take it as a salute to all our troops.
To our mutual prosperity and security. Cheers.
