Special Election Tommorrow in Windsor/Bloomfield, CT

Tommorrow, March 24, there will be a special election held for a seat in the Connecticut state House. The district was left open by a Democrat and the district is district 15. The race is between Democrat David Baram and Republican Joseph Merritt with Democrat DeVaughn Ward as a write-in candidate. The district includes Windsor and Bloomfield and is heavily Democratic, with Obama winning there 79%-21%, but lately no district has been safely Democratic. Democrats lost a state House seat in Delaware that went 69%-31% for Obama, one that went 65%-35% for Obama in Maine, and a county supervisor board seat that also went handily for Obama.

I know that few people care about these local state legislative elections, but they are very important. These elections will decide who controls redistricting in 2011 cycle that will determine who controls Congress for the next decade. So far, the results have not been encouraging for Democrats and may be a trend that suggests that 2010 could be a very tough year. Democratic turnout had been very low and Republicans have been highly motivated to vote. Its a trend that we cannot afford to have continue.

If anybody lives in either Windsor or Bloomfield, Connecticut, please vote for Democrat David Baram. I do not feel like having to come on here yet again and tell people that Democrats are in trouble because of another special election loss. From now on, I will keep people posted on every special election that comes up. That way, if anybody lives in the area where the election is being held, they know to vote.
