DemocracyNow.org has posted the following sobering story today..
Jeremy Scahill reports the Obama administration is continuing to use a notorious military police unit at Guantanamo that regularly brutalizes unarmed prisoners, including gang-beating them, breaking their bones, gouging their eyes, and dousing them with chemicals.
This force, officially known as the Immediate Reaction Force, has been labeled the "Extreme Repression Force" by Guantanamo prisoners, and human rights lawyers call their actions illegal.
Jeremy Scahill, is an award-winning investigative journalist, and the writer of the book Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army.
Despite what Obama has said publically about torture, this force unit has continued to operate and torture prisoners under the Obama administration.
Scahill also points out the irony that the most aggressive investigation at this point into the Bush War Crimes is being done an ocean away in Madrid (Spain).

I don't know if this explains why the Obama administration has fought against the ACLU in Court on matters regarding Torture. But this stuff just has to stop and stop immediately. This Country just makes less and less sense every single day. We waste billions and billions of dollars overseas (that we have to borrow at interest) every week creating mass violence and destruction, and then call that "defense" -- when it just foments lasting anti-American hatreds. We refer to the reckless slaughter of thousands totally innocent people, including children and women just casually as "collateral damage" - when it is, in fact, mass murder. Is it any wonder why they hate us?
The whole concept of "a War on terror" is absurd. You cannot fight a "tactic". Terrorism has always existed, and it will always exist just as crime and other forms of murder will always exist. Fighting terrorism is a Law Enforcement/Intelligence problem -- not a Military one. It is so sad that the whole corrupt and failed Bush-Cheney formulation of Foreign Policy is still being carried out today.
Bill Clinton successfully brought the 1993 WTC Bombers to jail, (and also Timothy McVie), without creating mass-violence in the World, and without bankrupting our Country, and without any Torture programs.
I'm beginning to miss Bill Clinton.
