Programming this dumb can only come from the top floor. Murdoch must be dictating this copy personally, because that's about the only thing that could give this legs. Bill Kristol is peddling roughly the same line, and in today's panel discussion he said that the oil spill would show people that "Obama is not omnipotent." Gee Bill, you think?
Considering that Murdoch calls the strategy for the GOP, it looks pretty grim for the GOP that they have to toe a line that sounds tone deaf, brain damaged, and delusional. And this is the guy who thinks he can make Sarah Palin president? But people that have the most money assume that they are smartest man in the room, and nobody is likely to tell Rupert otherwise regards Palin.
But, on the other hand, where does Rupert's "Messiah complex" come from?
William Kristol seems to relish tossing off the "Messiah" line. Does he believe it, or does he just enjoy being a jackass? And is he the one that planted this nutty meme in Murdoch's head? Kristol is a master manipulator.
And who is the real target of the "Obama is not God" talking point? It sounds so alien and culturally tone deaf, maybe it represents the views of Murdoch's major stockholders and customers in OPEC. Murdoch is fond of peddling the same stuff in England and the US. Given that Murdoch now owns a major Arabic media company, maybe the reason the whole "America-turns-on-Obama-the-false-prophet" theme sounds so foreign and odd is that it is also meant to play to Murdoch's OPEC cronies. It would be fascinating to hear how even more otherworldly Murdoch's programming is in the Arab world.
