The deafening silence of Erick Erickson and RedState

When I first read this diary about RedState apparently organizing an effort to jam Martha Coakley's phone banks, I hoped that we'd badly misread that post. However, even if the diarist was wrong, Erickson has shown his true colors by what he's done in response to several comments explicitly stating intent to jam the lines. Or rather, what he hasn't done.

So far, this has been Erickson's response to the RedStaters since he made his original post on Friday night:

Fellow Kossack Snapples gave Erickson a chance to condemn any attempts to jam Coakley's phone lines, and also reminded him that this was highly illegal. Erickson could have replied, "Yes, I made that post, but I in no way approve of phone jamming or any form of harassment--and anyone who advocated that in the comments will be banned." But no--he only said, "I am well within my rights to post what I posted." And Erickson proved he didn't get it in a post this morning.

At this point, we're assuming that Erickson's post was a long and loud dog whistle--one that was heeded obediently by several RedStaters. But even if it isn't, the fact that there hasn't been an unequivocal condemnation of such behavior by Erickson would be just as outrageous. It's a safe bet that anyone here who suggested that we try to jam a Repub's phone bank would be banned and reported to authorities in the blink of an eye.

To be fair, Moe Lane, one of RedState's moderators, posted a commentwarning against this activity. However, the tone of Erickson's post this morning effectively left Lane on an island.

Then again, we shouldn't be entirely surprised, considering the nature of the winger beast. After all, you have to remember that at Free Republic, Jim Robinson responded to the numerous veiled threats against Obama by basically saying, "Please don't do that." Any responsible blog operator--regardless of ideology--would have said that any threats to the president, regardless of party, would result in immediate banning and a report to the Secret Service.

And here I was a few days ago thinking that our counterparts actually had some decency. Boy, was I ever wrong.
