The Senate today is dysfunctional mess. Despite the mess work is getting done. Bills do get passed. Judges do get confirmed. A Coakley loss will end that. Only the budget will get passed and that because it has too. Everything else will be stopped dead in its tracks.
Yeah, the health care reform bill sucks, but the bill is better than nothing. Yeah, the financial reform bills are weak. Weak as they are without Coakley there is no chance in hell of getting even these bills passed and the banks will continue to screw us over. Yeah, the stimulus was not strong enough and a "jobs bill" is critical to creating enough jobs to win elections this fall.
All of the above is important. Even more important is the Glenn Beck effect. Glenn, Bill, Sarah, and all of Fox News (or is that Roger Ailes Inc.) will claim a glorious tea bag victory. Contrary to the opinion that tea bagging loses elections, this will change that. There will be a sharp right turn taken by what is left of the Republican Party.
The bottom line is that attacks on liberals, progressives, moderates, and democrats will ratchet up a couple of levels. If you think Rush Limbaugh is loud now, imagine what he will be like if Coakley loses. The end result will be a government than can do less. The people are upset with how little the government has done to help them will kick the bastards (democrats) out in the midterm elections.
Then there will be hell to pay. Worse, imagine Sarah Palen winning in 2012. A Coakley loss could lead directly to a Palen presidency. Think about it. Think about the machine Ailes has set up to continue making Palen front and center.
So go out there and support Coakley. The United States needs her to win. Do your part.
