A move to the right will further screw the American public. The US desperately needs another stimulus package (now a jobs bill) to employ workers and stop the ever increase in the unemployed. Say what you might but unless employment improves to the point where unemployment levels are below 8% the democrats are screwed this fall. Change must be seen here or at least a fight for change.
Big banks and insurance companies need to be split, new financial regulations need to be put into place, and high bonus bankers need to be fired. The people are watching this sector. Unless the banking and insurance sector starts behaving in a way to create more jobs, the people are angry and they will take their anger out on democrats.
Afghanistan is a black hole. Iraq is fast becoming a hell hole again. Pakistan is screwing around with the Taliban and al-Qaeda. A new approach based not on drones, but on education must be brought to these conflicts. Yes educate the people. Help them find a better place in the world than oil, drugs, and war. As is evident in Haiti, real change in the world is necessary to relieve poverty and by relieving poverty reduce anger at the US.
Finally global warming must be addressed. Levees from New Orleans to Maine will not keep the water from rising and thousands of acres from being covered. No more Florida. No more tidal basin in DC. Now more New Orleans. The list keeps growing. Then there are the hot spots, the wet spots, the cold spots, the shrinking water supply, and on and on. Global warming is a serious problem that is already going to plague the world. Unless attacked with all our strength humanity will end due to global warming. Catastrophe is already a certainty.
So what to do? The democratic party under the leadership of Barack Obama needs to take a sharp turn to the left. President Obama needs to use the state of the union to point out the need for change and what the change needs to be. President Obama needs to admit the stimulus package was not big enough and the a return to Bush economics will destroy the nation. He needs to grab the anger at bankers and run with it, saying he will fire the hire salaried bonus bankers who created this mess. He needs admit failures in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan while changing out policy from war to education. President Obama needs to say he global warming will end humanity without industrial policy to control it. Finally, he needs to admit he fucked up on health care and that the nation needs to move towards medicare for all with insurance companies providing supplemental insurance.
A bold move to the left. A move that is needed. A move the people will support.
