The voyage of the Senate stooge continues to roll along. Apparently, Senator DeMint had no idea that the Supreme Court Decision rendered this week has opened up the door for multi-national corporations-foreigners or ("furnors" in DeMint speak) to participate/donate to our candidates in elections.
Ah! Unintended consequences will get you every time, Senator DeMint!

Perhaps Senator Jim DeMint should be referred to as Senator DiMwit, from here on out!
ABC's This Week with Terry Moran exposed Senator DeMint's obvious stupidity about what the Supreme Court has accomplished with this week's ill-fated decision. Rather I should say that ABC-Terry Moran shows how Senator DeMint pointed out (his own) stupidity:
For all his demigoging talk of free speech and transparency and being able to face down those big bullying unions (ie: Errol Southers), it has apparently never occurred to Sen. Jim DeMint that SCOTUS just opened doors to multi-national corporations--FOREIGNERS-- such as (gasp!) France or Venezuela (take that Chavez) or even Saudi Arabia, meddling in our elections. For instance, if a country doesn't like the way a Senator voted on foreign aid, they can now donate as much as they want to defeat them and elect an opponent who may vote more favorably to a country in question.
MORAN: OK. And, finally, are you in favor of foreign corporations being able to participate in American elections through this decision?
DEMINT: I don't believe that -- right now, foreigners cannot give to the political process. And I hope, as this thing is sorted out, that we'll make sure that this is an American focus, so we'll have to sort all that out. I hadn't read all the details of the court's decision.
That's not how it works in the ruling, Senator DeMint. There's no distinction made in the SCOTUS ruling, so any corporation with American interests may now influence our elections.
Sen. Bob Menendez:
The problem is, a corporation is a corporation is a corporation. And a foreign corporation is going to be able to spend their monies in determining who is elected to the United States Congress. That's not good for the average citizen.
Under the WTO, NAFTA, and, the FTA, foreign corporations have the same rights as national corporations. Under these international trade agreements, no signatory to the agreements can treat foreign corporations differently than they treat domestic corporations.
Maybe this will be DeMint's "Waterloo" ...shouldn't a United States Senator know this?
