Currently Wisconsin legislators are considering a medical marijuana bill. With a state motto like "Forward" you might think this would go pretty easily however we appear to have many elected officials firmly rooted in the diatribes of the past.
At least, though, the issue is being raised. Not unexpectedly some in the Assembly & Senate say there is not enough information for them to base a decision on. We the People must step up to the plate and provide a sensible direction for our lawmakers to follow. Toward this end WisconsinCompassionCenters.org Forums has been set up for folks across the state (and nation) to add their voices in an effort to lay some ground work for law makers to look at.
Compassion Centers are the name the proposed legislation is using for a medical cannabis dispensary. While there is some language in the legislation that dictates how close to a school, community center, church etc., it doesn't say much more than that. It also is a bit vague on just how the center will produce it's crop other than to say the center may have a dispensary location and a separate grow location.
Having never visited a dispensary, I can only scratch my head and wonder if this is effective, or if this approach will present problems later. I know other states have taken other approaches that also seem to be problematic.
I am posting this request to DKos readers to visit WisconsinCompassionCenters.org Forums if you would like to join the conversation or have information you can share. Wisconsin is looking at the Michigan system, so I especially encourage people in Michigan to join in the chat and let us know how well its working for you there.
Also, anyone from states actively engaged in medical marijuana is asked to take a look and jump in if you can add anything.
