As bad as the economic conditions are today, economic conditions will get worse in 2011 and 2012 due to republican intransigence. Unemployment may settle around 10%, but only because fewer people will be looking for work. Many more people will be impoverished. More and more states will cut back on medicaid as a means of balancing their budgets. More teachers will be laid off; class sizes will continue to expand; fewer students will be educated. Police forces and fire departments will continue to shrink. Emergency rooms will be flooded until doctors start to refuse to provide emergency care, because it no longer pays resulting in hospitals shutting down emergency rooms and people will die on hospital steps. Medicare will be cut as well as social security benefits. We are already seeing social security disability benefits being cut. This will all be happening.
Worse, President Obama will be blamed, just as he was blamed for the lousy economy in 2010. In 2012 no one will believe that President Obama can bring about change you can believe in. The slogan will be hung around his neck and already has as that "hopey changey thing." In 2012 President Obama will lose the election despite his eloquent rhetoric. I am not questioning President Obama's intelligence or his toughness. I question his ability to be reelected. His reelection will not be based on the color of his skin, his intelligence, or his toughness. His reelection will depend on one thing alone, will people believe that President Obama will make things better for them in the next four years. Unless there is a radical change in the policies President Obama advocates during 2011, no one will believe that President Obama is capable of improving life for them if reelected.
This is a fact. I will not vote for President Obama unless he starts advocating policies I believe will improve life for my daughter, my wife, and myself. I may vote for a candidate who I believe will improve life. I may write in the name of someone I believe will improve life. (boy I wish I could vote directly for electors, but I am not aware of any state where that is even possible. Elections are really about electors pledged to a candidate, not about choosing a president.) Sad, but writing in the name of someone in reality is meaningless.
So what can I do? The truth is damn little. Even voting for President Obama will accomplish nothing. Republicans will seize control of both houses of congress and the presidency. The US will be royally fucked as will the rest of the world. I hate republicans as much as anyone who contributes to this forum. I have posted many policies that I believe all democrats should advocate. I have written my congress critters, President Obama, and newspapers advocating these policies. In the last election I phone banked for candidates. Unless President Obama starts strongly advocating policies I believe in, I will do none of this in 2012 and I will not vote for him.
