I just got called by the National Organization for Marriage

Ordinarily, I hang up on all telemarketing calls, but today I got a robocall survey from the National Organization for Marriage.
It consisted of two questions.

First "Are you a registered voter" Answer -- Yes

Second -- Do you believe that marriage between only one man and one woman should be legal? My answer -- No

Now this is obviously a trick question. Take out the word "only" and the answer is obviously "yes". But stick in the word "only" and for a marriage equality supporter such as myself, the only answer that you can give is "no." But, of course, can you expect a bunch of homophobes to ask an hones question, such as "Do you believe that marriage should be legal between gay and lesbian couples?"

I went to the website of this group and found that their goal is to "protect" marriage by preventing people from getting married, i.e. same sex copules.

On caller ID the number showed up as 208-991-1227. According to Caller Complaints this is a spoofed number -- i.e. the product of software designed to trick our caller id into thinking this is the actual number. I called the number back and it rang and rang, but gave no answer. Apparently the spoofed number has been used for a number of right wing robocall surveys.

In any case, according to our local neighborhood listserve they are apparently working through our local telephone exchange and probably through all of 202 with this survey. If you live in DC and get this survey be sure to answer "NO."

I have never been more proud of the District than I was last week when we finally gave marriage equality to our gay brothers and sisters. I have never been more proud of Congress than when it allowed this law to take effect.
