So, what to do? We must start with providing at least 250 billion dollars to the states this and next fiscal year so the states can maintain essential services, including education, police, firefighting, . . .
That will keep jobs from getting worse. Another 500 billion dollars, 250 billion to be spent before November, will enable unemployment levels to drop below 8% by November. Spent on what you ask? For starters infrastructure. The nation's infrastructure is falling apart. This includes schools, bridges, roads, water mains, sewage systems, and on and on. The infrastructure needs to be rebuilt.
Second is to address global warming by building windmills, by building better electric lines, by better insulating homes, by doing research and development.
Third is to hire more teachers and build more school facilities. This is from pre-K to post graduate. Yeah, education is critical for the future.
By doing these things now the unemployment rate will drop dramatically. Better yet taxes will increase as more are employed. And then we can start worrying about the deficit.
But the name of game is not health care, is not immigration, is not financial reform. The name of the game is employment - jobs.
