On May 7, 1919, Eva Peron, who was a powerful political influence as the wife of the president of Argentina, was born. And, when she died, boy, did Argentina GRIEVE!!
On this date in 1954, the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam ended after 55 days with Vietnamese insurgents overrunning French forces. One would've thought our government would learn SOMETHING from that but NNNnnnnOOOOooo; we were preoccupied with dominoes. The lack of learning said lesson cost over 50 thousand Americans their lives, untold thousands of Vietnamese lives, and wounds in our nation that still have yet to be resolved.
Finally, actor Gary Cooper was born on this date in 1901. Anyone who can watch the Pride of the Yankees speech or Lou Gehrig's actual speech and NOT CRY is damn hard - hearted, in my most humble opinion! And, yes, that is the real Babe Ruth in the background!
Let's Countdown...
#5 "Maverick Meltdown" AKA "El Maverick" AKA "Bordering on Insanity" AKA "Defriended" AKA "In Hot Water" - Tea baggers are not happy with St. Sarah from Wasilla – not one darn bit! She didn’t endorse "their guy" for California’s Senate seat. She endorsed Carly "Demon Sheep" Fiorina. Senator McCentury has endorsed & approved SB 1070 and has 10% of Hispanic support in his state. Senator Schumer asked Governor Brewer to hold off on the implementation of SB 1070 for a year so Congress can get their $hit together in immigration reform – not bloody likely, honey! First, no one in Congress has the chutzpah to deal with this issue. Second, Governor Brewer’s facing a primary herself, and she absolutely will not relent and look "weak."

Governor Jan Brewer’s approval rating among "Show Me Your Papers" state Hispanics is at 9%. Protests & boycotts are on the rise. Jonathan Alter thinks Senator Schumer is trying to give Senator McCentury some sort of escape clause to not look like such an a$$. He also thinks that Senator McCentury will eventually do the right thing & tell all SB 1070 involved parties to just take a step back & breathe. Nope...not gonna happen, honey! Senator McCentury wants to win that August primary; he ain’t ready to retire to one of his dozen or so houses! ;D Jeb Bush, the reasonably smart Bush son, can see down the road what the GOP future looks like if Hispanic support for the GOP continues the downward spiral it’s currently on.

People who just look to the next contest or the next election don’t give a tinker’s damn about the future if they’re not around! Tea bagger reaction to SB 1070 demonstrates just how full of $hit they are when it comes to their "government intervention" fears; tea baggers fear "non – Caucasian" people – especially ones in power. St. Sarah from Wasilla’s losing Facebook friends; I’m crying a river.

Remember, Miss Demon Sheep said Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover couldn’t run a company like Hewlett – Packard during the POTUS race in 2008; well, apparently, neither could she – details...details! And, here’s the original DEMON SHEEP!!!! I still wanna know who the person in the sheep suit is! ;D David Weigel gets to talk St. Sarah from Wasilla’s "friend" woes. Miss Demon Sheep, as an executive, supported a stimulus package AND cap – and – trade!
#4 "Times Square Terror" AKA "Terror & Opportunism" - Faisal Shahzad’s associations with radical Muslims in Pakistan are still unclear, but it’s crystal clear the GOP is going to try to play the fear card when it comes to national security in the upswing to the November elections. Check out what this Whit Ayres dude said about a possible terrorism bounce; it deserves repeating in full:
Democrats are always suspect on national security, and anything that makes them look weak on national security creates an opportunity for Republicans.
OK, let’s go down memory lane here. Which party was in charge of the White House & both houses of Congress during and up to the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001? So, the GOP record as of late on "national security" is {insert loud annoying buzzer here}!

Small Price to Pay Goldilocks thinks our success in fighting terror is due to luck. I’m not too impressed with Speaker Pelosi’s response – sorry! Chris Kofinis – long time no see! He doesn’t think the GOP has any other approach other than fear in so many areas of politics – not just terrorism. Chris also seemed to imply that Dems need to get a little more down and dirty in their responses to GOP shtick like what Small Price to Pay Goldilocks said this morning – AMEN!
** Texas minor league baseball action featured Will Ferrell tossing down a cold one on the pitcher’s mound – HA! There’s a big a$$ garden clock in India. Is India on daylight savings time? If so, who’s the lucky son of a gun who gets to change it? **
#3 "Decision UK ‘10" AKA "Up and Downing Street" - All right, Gordon Brown is still somewhat officially Prime Minister of Great Britain, but his party does not have the majority of seats in Parliament; NO PARTY has a majority of seats in Parliament. So, let the wheeling & dealing begin! The Liberal Democrat dude, Nick Clegg, could actually be sitting in the cat bird seat in the coalition game. David Cameron, the Conservative dude, is ready to deal with Mr. Clegg. Good grief...this election stuff across the pond IS starting to look like Florida 2000! All them stiff – upper – lip Brits may just loosen up a bit if they’re not careful! I wonder how Gordon Brown’s feeling about himself today knowing he helped his party lose the most seats in Parliament since the 30s?! Hundreds of Brits were turned away at the polls. NO RICHARD WOLFFE AGAIN????????!!!!!!!! GGGgggggggRRRRrrrrrr.... *&^%$#@! What’s the BBC got that Richard doesn’t?! BOO!! He even did Balls jokes with you on teh Twitter last night, and THIS is how you repay him??!!

Matt Frei ain’t nearly as easy on the eyes or ears as Richard, but I’m biased. So he’s actually IN London – big sparkin’ deal! Maybe, British "conservatives" & British "liberals" can actually be civil to each other; we are sorely lacking in the civility department as of late. And, maybe – just maybe – they take that "country first" stuff seriously! Another complicating factor in any coalition building is any combination that keeps Gordon Brown as prime minster; Prime Minister Brown, I guess, is about as popular as the creeping crud over there. Keith really gets a kick out of this Brit election stuff!
"Tea Time" The NY – 19 tea bagger candidate who had a fit when someone identified her as the tea bagger candidate has the TurdBlossom math when it comes to her donations & campaign war chest. The balance in her campaign war chest checkbook was $12. Now, even according to my admittedly weak math skills, 12 is less than 400,000 – yes?
WPITW – A MA driver hit Lord Jesus Christ, but he’s OK! Golly, Christ returned to MA? He returned to a state where {insert hushed tone here} gay people can get married??!! ;D Lonesome Rhodes is on another crying jag. Dick Armey & Freedom Works helped BP try to build support for {insert drum roll here} OFF – SHORE DRILLING.
Fridays with Thurber "How to Relax While Broadcasting" The Thurber collection that Keith reads from has to be reprinted in light of these readings – HA! I still say Keith should go on the road or to Radio City Music Hall or Carnegie Hall or something, spend an evening reading Thurber, and donate the funds to the National Association of Free Clinics. Are elevators in broadcasting buildings still lousy with Italian musicians? ;D This story reminds me of Kevin Bacon toward the end of Animal House!
