Update 7/8/2010 11:10 AM EDT: In yet another development, the offending blog has reportedly been removed.
An uprising of sorts has been underway at the Scienceblogs website over the inclusion of a new blog sponsored by Pepsi-cola. The new blog is reportedly about food and nutrition, but some sci-bloggers are concerned the sponsoring company harbors an obvious vested interested in how food-science is presented to readers. The reaction is not universally negative, but it's pretty darn close and getting worse:
A Pepsi Induced Exodus -- The time has come to close things up here. I will no longer be blogging for ScienceBlogs.com. I am not sure where Laelaps will end up - perhaps back on Wordpress, perhaps elsewhere - but you can be sure that I will keep on writing about saber-toothed cats, whales that walked, early humans, and other cool bits of paleontology [At the Smithsonian].
I have extended background here including an internal email about the issue reportedly distributed to at least some science bloggers, links, quotes, and it is ugly. (Late development, Scienceblogs sends another email announcing changes on heels of controversy.)
