We've seen this sort of thing from the right before, and quite recently. You'll no doubt recall the saga of Graeme Frost, the 12-year-old who gave a Democratic radio address a couple of years ago talking about the importance of S-CHIP, a Maoist conspiracy to keep children from dying in the gutter.
Outraged, uber-wingnut Michelle Malkin put on her inch-high private eye cap, and discovered that the Frosts had granite countertops, which obviously disqualified their son from living. But surely that was the low point of wingnuttia, right?
That would be a negatory. Back to our current story:
********* is a retired director from the Illinois Department of Public Health. She was juror 106, college educated, is active in the Urban League and other politics, and listens to NPR.
That's from Fox, of course (I removed the juror's name). Who else would take such an interest in her radio listening habits? Unless, of course, she had shot up a church and turned out to be an avid Fox News viewer. In which case it's gauche and irrelevant to mention such things.
John Cole, in his story entitled, appropriately enough, The Graeme Frost Decade, continues:
Much is being made by the deep thinkers that she is black AND listens to NPR. The local FOX affiliate and the bloggers have now published her name and are trashing her husband by name, as well.
He links to the repulsive wingnut blogger Ace of Spades (no linky from me), who writes:
What were her motives for so egregiously ignoring the law to set a guilty man free that her fellow jurors had to confront her with her own oath to render a true verdict?
Ties to the Chicago Urban League?
Uh-oh, I smell some code words. And I also smell some factual inaccuracies. From a non-Fox source:
A closer look at the breakdown on individual counts came from jury foreman James Matsumoto.
"On some counts it was 7-5, could be 5-7, some were 11-1, so it ranged all over the place," he said.
But fuck the facts, back to the code words. Commentors at another wingnut blog (again, no link) are quick to draw the proper conclusions:
She sounds like a first class community organizer to me.
OsamaHusseinIslamObama 2012′
(the terrorist-Uighur-ACORN-media choice)
These people really aren't that complicated when you get down to it. Her sin is that she's black, she's been a volunteer for her community, and listens to something other than a white guy (or gal) yelling "n*gger" all day. That makes her fair game.
I hope she and her husband have some personal security. Because the assholes after her will stop at nothing.
