As teacherken pointed out school is starting for many this Monday. (See A Saturday morning pause). Labor day is a couple of weeks away. Following Labor Day congress will briefly resume before taking off again to campaign for elections. Troops are leaving Iraq. Iraq is still a mess. Troops are dying in Afghanistan which is an even bigger mess. While not leaking the BP oil well is still not plugged. The twenty billion BP fund is being used to screw those injured by oil. And there is all this bull shit about a community center which isn't a mosque being built beyond sight of ground zero. As a child who came of age in the sixties, I still think of ground zero as the best place to be during nuclear war - instant annihilation, nothing in less than a nanosecond. And then there is the human catastrophe of the floods and droughts. Finally we have global warming.
All of those issues pale in the voters minds compared to the economy. To be more blunt it's the economy, stupid. Too many are unemployed and the problem is getting worse. Foreclosures are increasing. Deficit hawks are yelling austerity and austerity (see what happened in Ireland) under current conditions is a major FAIL.
Voters are being told by democrats that conditions are better than if the Bush policies were left in place. When you are in deep pain, does slightly less pain really make much difference? No. Republicans are saying they have the answer, tax breaks for the rich and service cuts for all, but no one will say which services other than not the military. And then we have the cut social security folks so we don't go deeper into debt.
Voters want economic pain to disappear. No one in the news is willing to deal with the causes of the economic pain. Politicians are happy to blame one another. Yet no one is willing to really fight for the voters who are in pain.
The impact is that little will change. Without evolution there may very well be revolution. I highly recommend listening to Ming Li on the form the change may take.

After watching sit back and think. I repeat It's the economy, stupid. The world is changing. Unless we work hard to bring about evolutionary change, like FDR did, then revolutionary change will happen. There will be even greater hardship. Worse if we cannot address global warming there may be extinction.
