A group called "The Christian Left" is trying to bring Christians together on Facebook to do what they're supposed to do: support progressive causes and candidates and fight for human rights, including those of LGBT people.
This is the ad they ran:
Are you a Christian? Are you a Liberal or a Progressive too? Do you feel alone in the 'Conservative Christian' world? Join us.
Facebook pulled the ad due to "negative user feedback."
It's pretty obvious what's going on. The "religion card" is a right-wing trick. It effectively cows the progressives, because we don't really like to bring religion into things, even if we're religious.
It's time to start taking back ownership of this cultural artifact. It's time to make the "religion card," lose its strategic value. We (particularly the "we" that is Christian) can point out that Christian values are progressive values. There's nothing exclusionary about that. Is it unnecessarily dragging religion into the public square? Not really. Religion is already in the public square and the right won't stop putting it there until we defuse its power as a wedge issue. This is what "The Christian Left" is trying to do, and the Christian Nationalists are trying to stop it before it gets started.
I really don't know much about Facebook, so any suggestions on how to fight this ridiculous censorship of a rather innocuous ad would be appreciated.
(P.S. Please do not use this as an opportunity to announce how little you care because you don't believe in any of that god crap. That's not helpful.)
