Wow. Just wow. We have just heard from President Mubarak. And I don't know what to say in commentary.
He opened with an acknowledgment of the demonstrations, which he attributed to reforms that happened because of him, and he insists he is indeed a reformer.
He also mentioned that there is a fine line between demonstrations and chaos, and lays some blame for the violence on the protesters themselves. He says he has always stood with the poor and unemployed, and he is listening to the people.
He says demonstrations are good, but within the "scope and rule of law". Meaning that people can only demonstrate when the government says they can.
Therefore, he blames all the woes of the people on his government, which has not acted in the interests of the people.
So he fired all of them.
And HE will appoint a new government in the morning.
What's the reaction from the crowd?
"DOWN DOWN DOWN WITH MUBARAK".
This is all I have to say right now, as I don't know whether to be snarky, or ranting. I feel like Rachel after Bobby Jindal's speech in 2009.
Words fail me.
