Ignore the dirty tricks. Vote no on Issue 2 today.
Right on schedule, anti-worker groups in Ohio shift from pushing support for Issue 2 by misleading and deceptive tactics to outright dirty tricks
. Amanda Terkel and Sam Stein report that:
At 9:37 a.m. on Tuesday, a Service Employees International Union (SEIU) staffer in Ohio received a robocall message inaccurately telling voters the election was "tomorrow."
"Hi, I am calling to remind you that tomorrow is Election Day," said the voice on the message. "It is critically important that you go vote and protect the future of our country. Tomorrow, please go to the polls and vote YES on Issue 2, and vote YES on Issue 3. Paid for by American Future Fund and not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee. 866-559-5854."
The election is, of course, today, Tuesday, the day that just about all elections happen in this country. If this call had gone to a registered Republican telling them to vote yes tomorrow, you'd think that the American Future Fund's phone vendor had really screwed up and was calling the right number on the wrong day. If it had gone to a Democrat on Monday, urging a Tuesday vote, you'd think that the American Future Fund had really screwed up its targeting. But targeting a registered Democrat and urging a vote the day after the real election day spells dirty tricks.
Also, chalk up one more right-wing group spending money to pass Issue 2 and take collective bargaining rights from public workers. The American Future Fund is a 501(c)4 (i.e. secret money) that appears to be Iowa-based and mostly dedicated to attacking President Obama—which, like Ohio tea party leaders, is probably behind their support for Issue 2. In addition to good old-fashioned hatred of unions and workers, of course.
