Pamela Geller's blogpost at The American Thinker scaremongers about "halal-friendly turkey" and other Islamophobic garbage.
Did you know that the turkey you're going to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day this Thursday is probably halal? If it's a Butterball turkey, then it certainly is -- whether you like it or not.
In my book Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance, I report at length on the meat industry's halal scandal: its established practice of not separating halal meat from non-halal meat, and not labeling halal meat as such. And back in October 2010, I reported more little-noted but explosive new revelations: that much of the meat in Europe and the United States is being processed as halal without the knowledge of the non-Muslim consumers who buy it.
A citizen activist and reader of my website AtlasShrugs.com wrote to Butterball, one of the most popular producers of Thanksgiving turkeys in the United States, asking them if their turkeys were halal. Wendy Howze, a Butterball Consumer Response Representative, responded: "Our whole turkeys are certified halal."
In a little-known strike against freedom, yet again, we are being forced into consuming meat slaughtered by means of a torturous method: Islamic slaughter.
Non-Muslims in America and Europe don't deserve to have halal turkey forced upon them in this way, without their knowledge or consent. So this Thanksgiving, fight for your freedom. Find a non-halal, non-Butterball turkey to celebrate Thanksgiving this Thursday. And write to Butterball and request, politely but firmly, that they stop selling only halal turkeys, and make non-halal turkeys available to Americans who still value our freedoms.
Don't buy a Butterball turkey for Thanksgiving.
In fact, to piss off Geller and her ilk, buy a Butterball turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and/or whatever other big holiday celebrations you're planning on holding.
AFA's resident Christofascist dominionist Islamophobic kook Bryan Fischer also jumped into the anti-Butterball smear campaign, as noted by Right Wing Watch blogger Josh Glasstetter.
Red-blooded Christian Americans, consider yourselves warned. The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer has discovered a plot to secretly infiltrate America’s ovens with Muslim turkeys:
I want to talk a little bit about Butterball turkeys. And I want to let you know [that] every single Butterball turkey sold in the United States of America has been sacrificed to Allah.
Every single turkey that Butterball sells has been ritually slaughtered according to Islamic practice and has had an Islamic prayer prayed over that bird while it is being slaughtered.
If your Thanksgiving turkey starts speaking Arabic or insists on wearing a hijab, now you know the reason. But this is no joking matter to Fischer, who raises the possibility of a pressure campaign against Butterball this Christmas.
From the 11.23.2011 edition of AFR's Focal Point:
Houston Chronicle's chron.com Islam blog by Ruth Nasrullah debunks the nonsense by Geller and her cohorts.
Pamela Geller, anti-Muslim blogger extraordinaire, sounded the alarm today over the latest “Islamization of America” outrage. She discovered that Butterball whole turkeys are certified halal, and in this she sees the latest example of “stealth” infiltration of Islam into all things American (read: non-Muslim). This Thanksgiving, she frets, the jihad starts with what’s on your table.
She called on good Americans (read: non-Muslims) everywhere to take a stand against the halal turkeys (which may, after all, be stuffed with sharia instead of gizzards.)
Boycott Butterball, she wrote, because:
Turkeys that are halal certified — who wants that, especially on a day on which we are giving thanks to G-d for our freedom?
Oh the ironies that riddle her blog post!
Irony #1: Although Geller uses “G-d,” the traditional Jewish way of spelling the name of the almighty, she seems unaware of how similar kosher, the traditional Jewish way of preparing food, is to halal. She protests what she calls the cruelty of halal slaughter:
Halal slaughter involves cutting the trachea, the esophagus, and the jugular vein, and letting the blood drain out…
From a description of kosher slaughter:
The procedure consists of a rapid and expert transverse incision with an instrument of surgical sharpness (a chalaf), which severs the major structures and vessels at the neck.
Irony #2: She calls Thanksgiving a great holiday celebrating our freedom and asserts that the way turkeys are slaughtered matters:
Halal turkey, slaughtered according to the rules of Islamic law, is just the opposite of what Thanksgiving represents: freedom and inclusiveness, neither of which are allowed for under that same Islamic law.
So Geller is using the Thanksgiving turkey as a symbol of what she perceives as a free and inclusive America. There are generations of native Americans stretching back to the first Thanksgiving who might have a different perspective. The turkey they shared with the pilgrims was, unlike the halal Butterball, a symbol of values that actually did destroy a civilization.
Perhaps there is confusion between halal and dhabiha, the latter word being the proper term for Islamically slaughtered meat. It’s strange that they emphasize that whole turkeys are halal, since it’s the slaughter that renders an animal halal. What happens when they chop the turkey up that makes it not halal? Do they spray it with bacon fat? Unless they tell us, we can’t know.
Bottom line: if Americans can’t bear the thought of putting something labeled halal in their mouths, their best bet is to stick with ham – a meat guaranteed to be free of Islamic influence, stealthy or otherwise.
