The New America...A scary place

I do not recognize this country. I see faces with stress and oppression. I see police
looking like Stormtroopers and a 100 bill is more like 10.00 now days. I come to this place to vent and surround myself with like minded people. There are so many empty houses and food banks lines. I try to stay positive and then my mind wanders to a better yesterday. No, it was not better for some but the extent of the grief is almost
overwhelming to most. We had civil rights issues while we waged a senseless war but we did not have the complete takeover of so much plutocracy and monarchy wrapped in fascism. I look at the flag and it is not waving so proudly. I don't believe it ever waved for equality for all but we all did strive for a more perfect union. The question that rings in my head like a massive thunderstorm is what can be done. How can we live in this New America? How can we raise our children and grandchildren in a free society that only appears free? What kind of country invades soverign nations? What kind of country lies and covers the truth like an old dirty rag covering garbage? What kind of people accept the pepper spraying of ministers and 84 year old women?
What kind of country cannot pass a jobs bill but fast tracks a bill that takes away freedoms like the Patriot Act and calls into question the rights of Americans that dissent? What kind of country produces nothing but propoganda, war and it's weapons, pepper spray by the tons to Egypt. That cuts education, healthcare (Real healthcare for the poor, allows banks and corporations steal homes and throw it's citizens to the street? Pollute the waters with massive oil spills? I rememeber a time

when children did not by the thousands in America go to bed hungry or cold or thrown to the streets. I rememeber a time that bankers were friendly and people were working. I remember a time when people were not attacked for disagreeing. I remember a time when, even with social and economic problems, the likes of Ted Kennedy prevailed and had a working congress. I remember fair reporting of REAL news. I also remember a time that one did not have to have a permit to sell their own clothes in their own yard. I remember when children played in their yards without fear of abduction or parents stuffing them in a garbage can.

Did 9-11 bring forth such fear that people lost their minds. More people die from the flu or car accidents than the 3000 that died that day. I am not downplaying the event of that day but I am not Chicken Little either. I remember a time when we could go to an airport and not be searched like common criminals or embarassed or appauled with child groping in the name of security. What in the name of all that is right has this country evolved into?

Are we humans or are we some sort of morphed dysfunctional mutant robots who will o along to get along. How many Aba Garubs? How many supreme court screw ups? How many pepper sprayings, beatings, starvings, enviormental disasters like BP and the answer is poison to the water? How many Katrinas with people dying on rooftops?
What is this placed called America? Do people think it will magically get better?
Do people blindly live in isolation and hope things get better as they watch their life savings, homes, wages, civil rights disappear into the sunset? How many innocents have to die? Who can tolerate or even survive this country called America? Do I hate America? I hate what has happened to the country. I hate the apathy. I hate the core of militarizaion and the abuse we are enduring. I hate the hypocrisy of such a state of affairs.

In one day I have had to think about this.
The Udall amendment being voted and possible detention of American citizens on American soil.
The 60 minutes special of the hunger in America.
The OWS being hurt and evicted for trumped up charges and just blowing off the Constitution.
The Patiot Act.
The crumbling of bridges and roads.
The Native Americans on reservations freezing from lack of heat.
The seniors suffering after working all their lives.
Our children's future and what it will be like in 5 years or less.
The outsourcing of jobs and the constant bickering in a do nothing congress.
Corrupt media
Corrupt politicans
Wages ( if you find any) far less than living standards
Homegrown hate and terrorists in the name of God and I am talking Militia types.
Is this America?
Don't you miss America?
What is the plan?
What do we do?
I can't sleep because unlike Scarlett O'Hara, I can't think about this tomorrow..I have to think about it today....Because tomorrow another scary thing will happen here.
Another vile thing to anger me.
Can we make a difference or is it that we are slaves and do not have a voice?
What is the remedy?
How long will it take?
Will I die in a place I no longer recognize and what becomes of our children and grandchildren?
I am sorry ..but I see no leadership anywhere from anyone in power. NONE.
I learned that this country shipped 21 tons of Pepper spray to Egypt tonight.
Is this what we are about? We can only sell things to do harm?
Love it or Leave it....Oh I am thinking about it. I refuse to pledge allegience and
am sad to see that I find no joy in The Star Spangled Banner or America the Beautiful.
I have made my last comeback..that happens when you are older. I will go down speaking my mind as long as I can but it looks like there is little if any recourse for America. It appears she has fallen from within. We had little say about it.
