“We’ve grown our base. These new numbers show we’re not dead and done like some people say,” said Jay Parmley, director of the S.C. Democratic Party. “Yes, we lost everything, but we’re coming back.
“You don’t get 47 percent of the votes in a governor’s race and throw yourself away forever,” Parmley added, referring to Democrat Vincent Sheheen’s narrow 51-47 loss to Republican Nikki Haley.
Yes, Jay, but we still lost. No matter the spread, we must win! Coming close doesn't cut it. Try having the people losing Medicaid tell doctors they came close to keeping their coverage. Nah, it won't work.
The state of South Carolina is under a Republican indoctrination. The "fad" is to be Republican because they're all followers. Being an outsider - a Democrat - is to be shunned, frowned upon because it's against the norm. Typical thinking of people afraid to challenge the establishment.
And the result you get is as stinging as 2010. State Dems lost every statewide race. We only have ONE U.S. congressman. One!
But Dems say they're coming back. Hmm... Coming back to what? To the same, played out tactics? Look, I developed some standard operating procedures - identifying procedures for various activities - for our local party, but have yet to hear of any sharing of them at meetings. Our local party has never had SOPs.
Oh, and not challenging the Republicans has to end. Really, people need to just shove the niceness down the drain of the nearest toliet and fight like there is no tomorrow - because there really is no tomorrow. How long are we going to sit by and let the likes of Nikki Haley, Joe Wilson, Jim DeMint and Tim Scott run rampant over all of us?
“South Carolina has not returned to a one-party state,” Huffmon said. “While Democratic elected officials are definitely in the minority, the presence of close high-profile races, such as the 2010 gubernatorial race, shows that — to paraphrase (Mark) Twain — reports of their death have been greatly exaggerated.”
Sorry, but that's just not true. This is a one-party state. To continue to tell a lie just furthers the uneducation of people. Look, there's no Democratic voice to challenge the Republicans here in South Carolina. That's the truth.
Nobody remembers the loser. Everybody remembers the winner. However, the winner can screw up and ruin as much as possible to lead a smart person to think twice on voting for them, but not here. In South Carolina, Republicans can win no matter what.
Because Dems do not fight back.
So, I hope South Carolina Dems come back... but they better be prepared to fight in order to win.
If not, they are only coming back to accept losing. And that, my friends, affects us all.
