I think we are being lied to. There are very big things happening behind the scenes; things that are not being talked about by anyone. I don't think that we are done with the fallout from the major looting that caused the 2008 economic plunge. Complex investments products, derivatives, credit default swaps. Intricate computer algorithms moving massive amounts of funds across the world. A financial house of cards that could be about to plunge the whole world into a massive crisis, when it collapses. We could be talking about liabilities of 60, 70, 80 trillion dollars--hidden, out of sight, and about to come due.
And on the political realm, it is obvious that what the extreme right wing is doing is akin to a very sophisticated coup d'état. Motivated by the remnants of extreme racial hatred, and right-wing extremist ideology influenced by puritanism, social Darwinism, and religious (end-of-days) fundamentalism, along with the control by the puppet masters in the form of the corporate overlords, this cult that is the Republican party, will do anything at all to not only bring down this president, but take down the country in the process.
These are the enemy within. Domestic terrorists.
They thrive in chaos. It's the ascendancy of fascists. They are telling us what their intentions are. They are enacting draconian laws curtailing women's and worker's rights, across the country; they stopped funding the FAA (the FAA for God's sake!) because Democrats won't go along with their thuggish take-it-or-leave-it demand to take down the unions. They are engaging in voter suppression efforts across the country.
The fascist onslaught is happening in real-time, right before our eyes. The stuff they are doing is so radical and unfathomable, that I think "normal" people don't know how to react. And so these fascist pigs are taking advantage of it.
I don't know if this issue with the fake, manufactured debt ceiling crisis is going to be resolved, but I know that there is a hard-core group of ideologues that are not only counting on it not being resolved; they are counting on a major and catastrophic situation emerges from it.
If that happens (as I've written before) all kind of objectives will be met: A rapid and massive transfer of wealth and power to a tiny ruling elite will take place; They'll be able to impede the proper function of government (an extremist right wing wet dream for a long time) by defunding it, or like Grover Norquist colloquially said "to shrink government to the size where we can drown it in a bathtub." In the aftermath of the chaos what they hope is to be able to establish some sort of corporatocracy joined at the hips with religious fundamentalists.
Eventually this will be study in history as one more example of the ascendancy of a fascist regime. It will be understood as some sort of undemocratic power grab, or a coup--golpe de estado.
Get the popcorn, and get ready to watch these fascist pigs take over the nation!
