NY Times flubs O'Keefe profile

We all should remember James O'Keefe of Acorn fame. The New York Times Sunday Magazine wrote a story, Stinger: James O’Keefe’s Greatest Hits, on him. As I read the story I couldn't help but think that writer Zev Chafets was misleading, okay lying, and just did not do his research. I did a search with Google for "o'keefe acorn" and already there was a web posting the Atlantic titled What the NYT Magazine Doesn't Say About James O'Keefe. To be blunt the Time fucked up again. More below the fold.

Conor Friedersdorf, the writer of the Atlantic article, states the issue in a nutshell

The writer, Zev Chafets, capably sketches his subject's biography, and correctly intuits that any worthwhile feature story on the 27-year-old must grapple with the ethical questions raised by his activism. But the grappling is woefully incomplete, leaving readers unaware of the most damning critiques of O'Keefe's work and unable to render an informed judgment.

The Times article never mentioned the CNN reporter set up complete with sex toys that was foiled when one of O'Keefe's helpers became uncomfortable and ratted on him. The Times article never mentioned the California state's attorney general's investigation of the Acorn incident with the finding that Acorn and its employee, Vera, is innocent or that Vera is suing O'Keefe. And in my opinion Chefets worst offense is comparint O'Keefe to Michael Moore.

So the New York Times fucked up yet again. What else is new?
