Here at Daily Kos I read some of the most interesting, intelligent, informative, inspiring, and diverse commentary than at (almost) any other Website out there. And maybe the reason for that is because my approach to "using" Dialy Kos is to look for diaries (or posts) that pique my interest. And by that I don't mean that I have to agree with the writer. Actually, often times I like to read diaries or comments with which I disagree, as long as the argument is presented in an coherent and intelligent manner.
I have never used the hide-rate, and never will (as long as we are able to use it). I figure that if someone writes something extremely offensive, the community usually "jumps on it" and "punishes" the offender.
As I wrote in a previous diary titled "Ignore the Rec List to Get The Most Value Out of Daily Kos,"
But I can attest to the fact that every single day, with just a little bit of effort, you can find true literary gems here. You can find news and information written in very professional journalistic-level prose. And about all kinds of topics--not only politics. And about not only the U.S., but about Europe, or Africa, or Israel, Greece, the Middle East, or the Sun (as in the sun in our solar system).
Another reason I like it here is because there are many people that are truly exemplary, and are making positive contributions by being actively involved in community organizing, social activism, politics, the environment, education, the labor movement, and business.
In other words, (my impression is that) the great majority of members of Daily Kos are decent, hard-working people who care about helping bring about a better world. A world that values human rights and dignity for all, where people can live in harmony with each other and mother nature.
I get inspiration, motivation, information, ideas, from many contributors here. And I look forward to continue being part of this truly great community of "thinkers" and "doers" and to learn, and get inspired to do what I can to make a positive contribution to my community and society as a whole (no matter how small).
If I ever feel that the site becomes corrupt because of greed, favoritism, hidden agendas, and unfair treatment of members, I'll be here no more.
