The Dream Team? (Chris Keane/Reuters)
During an interview on Univision on Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney not only displayed a shocking inability
to do simple math, he revealed that he's completely clueless on the whole concept of picking a running mate:
Jorge Ramos: We are going to open it up to the audience. Let me just ask you. Would you consider Newt Gingrich as your running mate?
Mitt Romney: At this stage, if he were the VP and I was the President, why, that's something I would consider ... I haven't made any considerations as to who would be my VP at this point. I think it would be presumptuous. I've got to become the nominee, first. And then I have to defeat President Obama. And then I'd get the privilege of having a vice president.
Uh, no. Granted, after the Sarah Palin disaster of 2008, one can appreciate that Romney would be scared spitless at the thought of choosing a running mate that would appeal to the extremist wing of the Republican Party, while at the same time not making himself look like a complete, pandering idiot (see: McCain, John), but that's not how it works. So be bold, Mitt. Excite the base.
